Welcome to the Alpha Community Academy

Alpha Primary School started up in January 2008 with 15 pupils, 7 of whom graduated from the nursery section in November 2007. At that time a temporary classroom was built adjacent to the nursery school. Some land next to the campus has since been donated and the building work has begun. Today there are 115 students. Please make a donation.

Alpha Primary School is building on the outstanding success of Alpha Pre-Nursery and Nursery School. The children are growing up fast and the Primary School is being built on land adjacent to the Nursery. In January 2009 Phase One will be completed with Primary 1 and Primary 2 classes up and running. Read our newsletter.

A new classroom block for Alpha Community Academy Primary 1s and 2s was opened officially in January 2009. The classrooms are on the top floor and below are the kitchen, dining room and school office. A kitchen store room is currently under construction. The next phase will be to build a perimeter wall around the complete site.

Winnie Muvunyi, Founder and Principal

Winnie was born in 1972 and orphaned in a refugee camp in Uganda where her family was forced by conflict to flee. She survived the horrible conditions there and returned to her family’s home nation of Rwanda to face the legacy left behind by the genocide of 1994. Along with her husband, Rev. Louis Muvunyi, who's been a major support, Winnie has achieved her dream to provide stability and opportunity to Rwanda's many poor and orphaned children. Winnie did the only thing she knew to make a meaningful difference in the lives of these children and their families, while investing in the future of Rwanda.

ALPHA Nursery began with seven children. It is now home to preschool, kindergarten and primary 1 and 2 classes of 115 students and 12 staff, most of whom come from the poorest families and are being sponsored or on scholarship. Her trained staff only receive $100-$200 a month. Parents are begging her to have more students and grades. As she receives funds, Winnie’s hope is to build more classes to help more students and a community room that families could use. Her and the caring staff at ALPHA Pre/Primary are wiling to do all the work caring for these kids. They only need financial support to be able to serve many more children. They DESERVE our help!

"I promised God to help and love the children, especially the poor and orphans by investing love and care in their lives which I missed in my own childhood." Winnie Muvunyi
